Welcome to La Piana dei Mulini

In the center of the region, equidistant from the main highways (A14 – Termoli exit; A1 – San Vittore exit) La Piana dei Mulini is located along the shortest traffic route to cross Italy from east to west. Starting from the coast, go up the valley of the Biferno river, along the SS 647 road, called by the locals Bifernina. This road crosses ancient paths, mule tracks and large sheep tracks.

It runs along the river for its entire course, between hills of cereals and small villages clinging to the hills. This was a millennia-old route, modified over time, when on foot, on horseback or with flocks, we went from sheep-track to sheep-track, along the east-west route to reach from Puglia and Abruzzo, in a short time, Campania or Lazio. Arriving almost at the sources of the river, where the ancient mill was, right between the two Tratturi Regi, the Pescasseroli – Candela and the Castel di Sangro – Lucera, the road was divided in two to get around the high mountain sacred to the Samnites, the Matese: in a northerly direction, towards the Ciociaria, in a southerly direction, towards Benevento, Campania.
